In a recent media event, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, criticized his political rival, Rotimi Amaechi, saying he is not fit to be Nigeria's Vice President. Wike claimed that Amaechi had previously harmed the judiciary by shutting down courts in Rivers State, which he believes should disqualify him from holding such an important position. Wike also expressed disappointment with the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), accusing it of becoming too involved in politics instead of focusing on justice and fairness. He urged Nigerians to carefully review the backgrounds of political candidates before supporting them. Looking ahead to the 2027 presidential election, Wike stated he will actively work against former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who is running for president. He emphasized the importance of being in touch with his home state, Rivers, and denied rumors that he was planning to move back there permanently. Instead, he plans to continue visiting to stay connected with his community and monitor political developments as the election approaches.
