The World Health Organization (WHO) and Badr University in Cairo have teamed up to improve health in the Eastern Mediterranean region. They signed an agreement to promote "One Health," which focuses on the connection between human health, animal health, and the environment. This partnership comes at a time when there are increasing concerns about diseases that can spread from animals to people, antibiotic resistance, food safety, and climate change. The agreement will lead to various activities, such as training programs, public awareness campaigns, workshops, and creating educational materials for health professionals. Badr University’s International One Health Centre will be a key player in these efforts. Dr. Adham Ismail Abdel-Moneim from WHO emphasized that health issues cross boundaries and require collaboration among different experts, including public health officials, veterinarians, and environmental scientists. Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mohamed El-Shihy from Badr University highlighted the importance of this agreement for regional health security. The first planned activities include a regional awareness campaign and a conference for experts and policymakers to share knowledge. Overall, this collaboration aims to raise awareness, develop the workforce, and support countries in adopting One Health practices.
