The Vice-Chancellor of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT), Prof. Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, announced that the university will start including Artificial Intelligence (AI) courses in its programs. This change aims to make learning more hands-on and practical for students. The new curriculum will be introduced for first-year students in the 2026/2027 academic year and will cover subjects like Cyber Security, Data Science, and Software Engineering. Okolie emphasized that the goal is to help graduates become innovators and problem-solvers rather than just job seekers. The university plans to align with the Enugu State Government's initiative to foster innovation and productivity in the state. Prof. Chike Anibeze, who is involved in academic planning at ESUT, highlighted the importance of responsibly integrating AI into education while maintaining academic integrity. He pointed out that AI is changing how students learn and that universities should prepare them to work effectively with AI technologies. Additionally, Dr. Dhamir Mannai from Vertex Labs mentioned that AI is essential for both staff and students. He noted that the new programs will help students learn the basics of AI and enable them to create AI applications. Overall, the university is focusing on updating its curriculum to equip students with the skills needed for the modern workforce, emphasizing the combination of AI and experiential learning.
