The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has reported an increase in the number of students taking their exams in 2026. This year, 100,069 candidates registered for the National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) exams, which is up from 92,876 in 2025. This shows that more students are interested in business and technical education. The number of exam centers also grew from 1,892 to 2,144. Out of the registered candidates, 97,867 actually took the exams, leading to a high attendance rate of 97.80%. In terms of results, 79,504 candidates earned five credits or more, including English and Math, which is a significant improvement compared to the previous year when only 61,104 candidates achieved this. Overall, 89,580 candidates received five credits or more, with or without English and Math. Additionally, 24,128 candidates were certified as craftsmen, which aligns with NABTEB's goal of promoting practical skills. The exams took place from June 15 to July 13, 2026, and while there were some cases of cheating, the number was relatively low at 1.55% of candidates. The NABTEB Registrar, Dr. Mohammed Aminu Mohammed, expressed pride in the results and emphasized the importance of maintaining exam integrity. He thanked the Minister of Education for supporting improvements in Nigeria’s education system and assured that NABTEB would continue to enhance its processes using technology.
