The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized a statement made by a government official in Borno State, who threatened to punish people who do not support the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the upcoming 2027 elections. The ADC believes that such threats are harmful to democracy and that people should be free to choose their political leaders without intimidation. Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC's spokesperson, emphasized that the APC should control its members to prevent damaging comments that could undermine the democratic process. He pointed out that the APC won the 2015 elections because people were allowed to vote freely against the previous government. Abdullahi also urged security forces to take action against public officials who use intimidation tactics instead of fair political campaigning.
