The Katsina State Government, along with UNICEF, is working hard to fight diphtheria and improve nutrition among people, especially women and children. They recently held a meeting with journalists to share information on these issues. During the meeting, Dr. Shaima’u Kabir Abba from the State Primary Health Care Agency highlighted how important good nutrition is for the health of mothers and children, especially during the first 1,000 days of a child's life, which includes pregnancy and the first two years after birth. She pointed out that insecurity in the region is making malnutrition worse and emphasized the need for ongoing efforts to improve health for mothers and children. The goal of the meeting was to help the public understand the importance of healthy eating and living, as well as to raise awareness about preventing diphtheria. Dr. Lawal Aminu-Danja, another health official, reminded parents to ensure their children get all their vaccinations on time, as diphtheria can be prevented with vaccines. He explained that diphtheria is a serious infection that affects breathing and can cause symptoms like a sore throat and swollen neck. Overall, the campaign aims to encourage better nutrition and health practices in the community, with support from the media to spread the message.
