The Bricon Foundation has donated breast prostheses and mastectomy bras worth 50 million Naira to help 600 women cancer survivors in Lagos. This donation is part of the foundation's celebration of its 10th anniversary. The aim is to help these women regain their confidence after undergoing surgery for breast cancer. Abigail Simon-Hart, a co-founder of the foundation and a breast cancer survivor herself, emphasized that cancer care should support patients emotionally and socially, not just focus on treating the disease. The foundation has also provided financial support to help cancer patients restart businesses and has run programs for children of affected families. Simon-Hart highlighted the importance of patients being involved in their own care and understanding their treatment. She called for better health insurance for cancer patients and more investment in prevention and early detection. Dr. Niyi Adekeye, another co-founder, mentioned that the donation was a significant gesture to mark their anniversary, and he stressed the need for ongoing awareness about cancer beyond just one month a year. Dr. Kemi Ogunyemi, a health advisor for Lagos State, praised the donation, noting that it helps women feel better after the trauma of cancer treatment. She also mentioned that early detection of cancer is crucial and that Lagos State is working on improving healthcare services for cancer patients. The Bricon Foundation plans to extend its support to more areas in Nigeria in the future.
