Low productivity, market gaps trap farmers in poverty — Experts

Industry experts have stated that Nigerian farmers are trapped in poverty due to low productivity and supply chain gaps, which can cost smallholders up to 60% of their produce. They spoke at the second edition of the Climate Smart Agriculture Dialogue Series organized by TransGreen Foundation, identifying low yields, fragmented markets, inadequate financing, weak extension services, and climate change as major constraints. Dr. Godwin Atser, Country Director of Sasakawa Africa Association Nigeria, noted that Nigeria's agricultural productivity is significantly below that of India, resulting in lower incomes for farmers.
