Agric sector’s stakeholders disagree over food inflation

Stakeholders in Nigeria's agricultural sector and economic experts have expressed concerns over the latest food inflation report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), describing it as inconsistent with conditions in farms and markets. They also criticized agricultural policies and practices that may have undermined productivity. The NBS reported that food inflation rose by 2.79 percentage points to 20.31% in July from 17.52% in June, marking the fifth consecutive monthly increase since March. The increase was attributed to price changes in commodities such as garri, crayfish, fresh pepper, onions, carrots, rice, water yam, tomatoes, and plantain.
