The federal government's initiative to revive Nigeria's Cotton, Textile and Garment (CTG) industry is facing significant challenges due to collapsing domestic cotton production, which has fallen below 10,000 tonnes. Ginneries are operating below capacity, and textile factories are struggling with inadequate raw materials. Mr. Eneojo Idakwo, Managing Director of Market Hub Media Limited, warned that the country risks pursuing an industrial revival without the necessary cotton supply. He also identified unresolved institutional arrangements around the sector's coordination as a major threat to the implementation of the revival strategy.
