Professor Victor Lasebikan, a consultant psychiatrist and addiction specialist at the University College Hospital, Ibadan, stated that addiction is not a moral failure or a sign of weak character but a complex brain disorder. He noted that even doctors, clergy, and law enforcement officers have been treated for substance use disorders. He emphasized that Nigeria requires better public education, stronger policies, and improved access to treatment and rehabilitation to address addiction.
