25 MDAs, varsities, others flagged in N1.34trn audit lapses

The Office of the Auditor-General for the Federation has released its annual report on non-compliance and internal control weaknesses in Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) for the financial year ended December 31, 2024. The report uncovered financial irregularities, unsupported payments, unremitted revenues, irregular contracts, and unretired cash advances totaling over N1.34 trillion across 25 MDAs, universities, and other government institutions. The Auditor-General, Shaakaa Kanyitor Chira, transmitted the report to the National Assembly via a letter dated July 17, 2026, highlighting 31 infractions. The report warned that these deficiencies could undermine public financial management, accountability, and service delivery.
