The Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline, now known as the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline (AAGP), was first proposed in 2016 by King Mohammed VI of Morocco. The project, which has secured the endorsement of ECOWAS, is estimated to cost over $25 billion and would span approximately 6,900 kilometers, with Morocco hosting over 1,600 kilometers. The pipeline is designed to transport 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually, with up to 15 billion cubic meters allocated for domestic use. Despite nearly a decade of planning, the project remains stalled due to bureaucratic delays, geopolitical complexities, and a lack of presidential urgency.
