Schools have reopened in Ebola-affected areas of the Democratic Republic of Congo after authorities reversed a decision to implement remote learning in high-risk zones. The reversal came after concerns that prolonged remote learning could cause students in these areas to fall behind their peers. Government data shows the Ebola outbreak has resulted in over 3,000 deaths and 6,186 confirmed cases across six provinces, with a fatality rate of 48.6 percent. More than 1,000 schools in Ituri Province are classified as high-risk or 'red zone' areas, and an education ministry official said provincial authorities requested the change to prevent academic setbacks.
