An incident at Okari Jetty in Okrika Local Government Area of Rivers State has resulted in the deaths of several persons suspected of illegally siphoning petroleum products. Community sources report that 43 people died after inhaling toxic fumes, while others are missing. The Rivers State Police Command has not confirmed the casualty figures and stated that an investigation is ongoing. The incident occurred around midnight on Thursday, September 3, 2026, when a vessel was loading petroleum products for export.
