The Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi, has ordered operatives not to arrest anyone over civil matters. Ajayi said the directive is part of reforms introduced since he assumed office to strengthen adherence to the rule of law and improve the DSS's human rights record. He disclosed this in a media interview on Thursday, stating that his reforms focus on law enforcement, inter-agency synergy, accountability, respect for human rights, and infrastructural and administrative reforms. Ajayi emphasized that the use of force is inappropriate in civil disputes and that the agency previously conflated civil and criminal matters.
