Senior Advocate of Nigeria Femi Falana and human rights lawyer Ayo Obe have warned that Nigeria's 2027 general elections may lack credibility if past electoral flaws persist. Speaking at the 25th Mike Okonkwo Annual Lecture in Lagos, they stressed the need for strict adherence to electoral laws by INEC, rejection of vote buying, and protection of voters from intimidation. The lecture, themed 'Democracy at the Crossroads: Electoral Credibility, Judicial Integrity and the Future of Nigeria,' also examined the judiciary's role in safeguarding democracy. Falana, who chaired the event, expressed concern over threats allegedly directed at political opponents.
