President Bola Tinubu has assured journalists of his administration's commitment to press freedom, stating that those who criticise him should have no fear of government reprisal. He spoke in Abuja at the centenary celebration of the Daily Times and the unveiling of the Nigerian Grand Book and Times Heroes Awards. Represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, the President described the media as critical to Nigeria's development and a custodian of the nation's collective memory. He reaffirmed his commitment to press freedom in line with the Constitution.
