The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) is currently facing 136 court cases with a combined contingent liability of Shs777 billion, according to a meeting with the Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE). The cases largely stem from delayed payments to project affected persons, totaling Shs22 billion, and an additional Shs30 billion owed to a substation in Tororo District. Over Shs500 billion of the liability is linked to a case filed by Umeme Limited, which is being heard in a London court. Members of Parliament expressed concern over the potential impact of these liabilities on public finances and electricity service delivery.
