Water sachets, small plastic pouches of purified water, provide affordable drinking water for millions in West Africa but also contribute to plastic pollution. These sachets are a response to the lack of safely managed drinking water for over 845 million people in sub-Saharan Africa. They are cheap to produce and widely used, but their disposal strains waste management systems. The dual challenge of water access and plastic pollution is a growing concern for the region.
