The Argentine Football Association has announced that all matches in the Argentine league will be paused in the 10th minute this weekend for a minute of applause in tribute to Lionel Messi, who retired from international football. Messi, 39, wore the number 10 shirt for Argentina and announced his retirement on Monday. He captained the national team to World Cup victory in Qatar in 2022, and his final game was the 2026 World Cup final defeat to Spain in July. The association stated that referees will stop the game in the 10th minute of all matches for the tribute.
