Environmental Rights Action/Friends of the Earth Nigeria (ERA/FoEN) has called for full transparency regarding the agreement between the federal government and JBS, a global meat-processing company, over its proposed $2.5 billion investment in Nigeria. The group insists that the project must not proceed without rigorous environmental and multi-sectoral scrutiny. ERA/FoEN stated it is not against foreign investment but demands transparent negotiations, independent environmental assessments, and effective regulatory oversight. Deputy Executive Director Mariam Bassey-Olson emphasized that the controversy should not be framed as a choice between development and opposition to foreign capital.
