Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos has denied bail to 10 defendants, including three Mexicans and seven Nigerians, over their alleged involvement in producing methamphetamine at a clandestine laboratory in Ogun State. The judge ruled that the defendants failed to provide sufficient materials to justify bail. He noted that bail is discretionary but must be exercised judicially, and can be refused if there are reasonable grounds to believe the defendant might abscond. The court emphasized that one purpose of bail is to ensure the accused remains available for trial.
