The Federal Government of Nigeria has denied social media claims that it and ECOWAS supported the recent failed coup attempt in Niger Republic. Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye, described the claims as baseless and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and tarnish Nigeria's image. In a statement on Thursday, he affirmed that Nigeria has never supported military coups or unconstitutional changes of government. He reiterated Nigeria's commitment to constitutional order, democracy, and stability in West Africa and the continent, referencing an earlier statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 30, 2026.
