The Kontagora Emirate Council in Niger State has identified early marriage as a key factor contributing to girls' withdrawal from school. The council made this known in a communiqué issued after a two-day education stakeholders' meeting under the Mu Koma Makaranta Initiative, a five-year education programme for 2026 to 2031. The meeting, which brought together traditional leaders, government representatives, and development partners, stressed the need for communities to discourage practices that hinder children's education. The communiqué was signed by Dr Isah Adamu and Dr Shaima'u Aliyu Yunusa.
