The convoy of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Borno State, Engr. Mustapha Gubio, was ambushed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists on Thursday evening. The incident occurred as the candidate and his entourage were returning to Maiduguri after a thank-you visit to Damasak, a border town about 190km from the state capital. A security source said insurgents had planted landmines along the Gubio-Kareto-Damasak highway, and a police armoured vehicle leading the convoy ran over one, triggering an explosion. Following the blast, the terrorists attempted to ambush the convoy.
