A coalition of New York City parents, known as AIM, has successfully lobbied Mayor Zohran Mamdani to impose a one-year moratorium on artificial intelligence use in the city's elementary and middle schools. The group was formed after parents discovered that AI chatbots were being used in classrooms without their knowledge. Craig Garrett, a parent, expressed shock and disappointment upon learning that his five-year-old daughter interacted with an AI chatbot daily. However, some parents support AI in education, arguing that early exposure builds essential AI literacy for future careers.
