Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has defended his decision to establish the American University of Nigeria (AUN) in Yola, Adamawa State, stating that the institution was created as an investment in education and development of the North, not for personal profit. In a post on X, he said if profit had been his primary motivation, he would have established the university in cities like Abuja or Lagos. He also disclosed that AUN is no longer his personal or family property, as he had signed a deed of gift transferring ownership.
