IMF Commits to Engaging Member-Countries to Tackle Global Imbalances

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has expressed commitment to engaging member countries to address global imbalances, noting that public debt, at nearly 100% of global GDP, has exceeded post-World War II levels and is expected to rise further. IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva made these remarks at the conclusion of the G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors' Meeting in the United States. She also raised concerns about rising global interest rates and urged central banks to focus on price stability and fiscal authorities to implement credible medium-term consolidation plans.
