The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has opened an audit inquiry into Tesla's self-certification of its Cybercab robotaxis. The investigation was launched shortly after Tesla deployed a small number of Cybercabs in Austin, Texas. NHTSA stated it fully supports the safe development of automated vehicles but is examining the certification process.
