Africa bigger, US smaller – UN adopts new map

The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution on Friday to support a new world map that more accurately represents the sizes of continents. The Equal Earth cartographic projection, backed by 164 countries, makes Africa appear larger while shrinking North America and Europe compared to the traditional Mercator projection. The United States voted against the resolution, with six other nations abstaining. Togo's Foreign Minister Robert Dussey, who led the initiative, emphasized that maps influence perceptions and education.
