Accord Party presidential aspirant Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has criticized the Federal Government's justification for high petrol prices, describing the fuel subsidy debate as 'accounting magic.' Olawepo-Hashim cited data from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) indicating that producing a barrel of crude in Nigeria costs about $30, suggesting that current pump prices are inflated by government pricing policies.
