The Okoko Item community in Bende Local Government Area of Abia State held its 2026 New Yam Festival on August 24, 2026, at the LA School field. The event brought together sons and daughters of the community, both home and abroad, to celebrate thanksgiving, identity, and community strategy. Over 10 age grades participated in uniform, with cultural performances including ogene, ekwe, and masquerades. The festival featured the symbolic cutting of new yam, reflecting the community's farming heritage.
