Rent inflation in Nigeria has escalated sharply, rising from 14.79% in June to about 39% in July 2026, according to the National Bureau of Statistics. Investment banking firm GTI Investment Group estimates that rents surged by 80-120% between 2024 and 2026, disproportionately affecting low- and middle-income households and young professionals. Proximity to workplaces is a key factor in housing choices, intensifying the struggle for affordable accommodation. Even a 133% minimum wage increase in 2024 has not alleviated the pressure, prompting discussions on employer-assisted housing as a potential solution.
