UN Women Nigeria has disassociated itself from fundraising materials circulated by Gender & Development Action (GADA) in connection with preparations for Nigeria's forthcoming general elections. The organization stated that it neither authorized nor supports the initiative, which used the UN Women name and the branding of the Women Political Participation (WPP) Working Group to solicit financial contributions for individual female political candidates. UN Women Nigeria expressed concern that the use of its name and branding could create a misleading impression that the UN agency or the working group endorsed the fundraising initiative. The statement emphasized that as part of the United Nations system, UN Women is bound by strict guidelines and does not engage in such activities.
