Nigeria has joined 163 other countries in endorsing an African-led UN resolution aimed at correcting global cartographic representations that have historically made Africa appear disproportionately small. The UN General Assembly adopted the 'Correct the Map' resolution by 164 votes to one, with six abstentions. The United States was the sole opposing vote, while Estonia, Georgia, Lithuania, Moldova, Serbia, and Ukraine abstained. The resolution, formally titled 'Correct the Map: Rebalancing global cartographic representation and promoting equitable representation of the world's regions, particularly Africa,' was backed by the African Union and challenges centuries of map distortions.
