The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) has warned that Nigeria's vulture populations are facing a severe decline due to illegal killing, poisoning, and trafficking of their body parts. The foundation noted that Nigeria has become a major hub for the illegal regional trade in vulture parts. Of the seven vulture species in Nigeria, four are classified as Critically Endangered, including the Hooded Vulture, which has lost an estimated 95% of its population since the early 2000s. The NCF called for urgent government action to protect these birds.
