The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has dismissed one of its security officers, Daniel Stephen, for allegedly allowing Aichatou Asabe El-Rufai, wife of former Kaduna State governor Nasir el-Rufai, to gain unauthorized access to him in custody. Stephen, attached to the commission's internal security team, was reportedly caught on CCTV assisting Asabe to enter the ICPC premises on July 5, 2026, outside the approved visitor access procedure. He reportedly admitted his involvement in a handwritten statement to an investigation panel, acknowledging helping el-Rufai's wife gain access through the back door. El-Rufai has been in ICPC custody since February 19, following his release by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
