The Auditor-General for the Federation has reported that N33.75 billion in cash transfers to over 3.29 million households in 2023 could not be verified as reaching genuine beneficiaries. The finding is part of the 2024 Annual Report on Non-Compliance and Internal Control Weaknesses in Ministries, Departments and Agencies, which examined the National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) in Abuja. The report, transmitted to the National Assembly on July 17, 2026, noted that electronic transfers were made to beneficiaries listed on the National Social Register across 35 states. However, auditors could not confirm recipient identities because payment vouchers lacked complete beneficiary details.
