Former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Kingsley Moghalu, welcomed a UN resolution encouraging more accurate world maps that represent Africa's size, but cautioned that a corrected map alone cannot drive economic transformation. The UN General Assembly voted 164-1 in support of the 'Correct the Map' resolution, led by Togo and backed by the African Union. The resolution encourages the use of equal-area map projections like Equal Earth instead of the Mercator projection, which distorts landmass sizes. Moghalu noted that while the map correction is symbolic, it does not address the continent's economic challenges.
