FIFA President Gianni Infantino has confirmed his intention to seek a fourth term in office, according to a statement from a FIFA spokesperson. This announcement comes despite opposition from several football confederations and countries that have withdrawn their support. Infantino has faced criticism for proposing to sell minority stakes in FIFA's tournaments to private investors and has been accused of breaching trust by confederations from Europe, Asia, and North and Central America. The next FIFA election is scheduled to take place in 2027.
