Former Cross River State governor Donald Duke has stated that Nigerians were better off under military rule, arguing that 27 years of civilian government have imposed high costs without delivering corresponding improvements. In an interview, Duke said governance was less expensive under the military and that the welfare of citizens has not improved, with issues like out-of-school children and healthcare deteriorating. He questioned the delivery of democracy dividends since 1999.
