President Bola Tinubu has escalated South Africa's xenophobic and Afrophobic attacks to the African Union, with Vice President Kashim Shettima calling for collective action at the AU's 21st Extraordinary Session in Luanda. The violence has led to deaths and departures of African migrants, with Mozambique reporting five citizens killed and over 178,000 African immigrants leaving or being deported from South Africa. Nigeria has evacuated 1,490 citizens by July. The matter is urged to be placed on the agenda of the January 2027 General Assembly.
