Anambra State was created on August 27, 1991, when the old Anambra State was split into Enugu and Anambra states. The new Anambra, with its capital at Awka, is known for producing internationally renowned figures such as Nnamdi Azikiwe, Chinua Achebe, and Emeka Anyaoku.
