FG Reforms Drive 12.3% Growth in Nigerian Ports’ Cargo Throughput

The federal government's reforms in the maritime sector have led to significant growth in Nigerian ports' cargo throughput, vessel traffic, container movements, and vehicle traffic in the second quarter of 2026. According to the Nigerian Ports Authority's Operational Performance Report, cargo throughput rose by 12.3 per cent year-on-year, while ocean-going vessels increased by 14.4 per cent. Container traffic hit 602,392 TEUs, and vehicle traffic rose by 18.3 per cent. The report indicates strengthening activity across Nigeria's seaports.
