In Uganda's Karamoja Region, women are climbing mountains to crush rocks in search of gold to feed their families due to severe food insecurity. They often bring their children, who suffer from malnutrition. The region faces worsening food insecurity driven by climate shocks, the lean season, and household debt. Over 40,000 people are in Phase 4 of the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification, meaning they barely eat one meal a day, while more than 432,000 are in Phase 3.
