Hafidh Ameir Hassan, the husband of Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan, has died at the Emilio Mzena Memorial Hospital in Zanzibar. He was receiving treatment for a heart condition and passed away on September 7, 2026. Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi made the official announcement and extended condolences. Ameir was an agricultural academic who had kept a low public profile since becoming First Gentleman in 2021. Funeral arrangements are underway in Kizimkazi, Zanzibar.
