The final batch of 41 Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa following xenophobic attacks arrived in Accra on 4 September 2026, concluding the government's evacuation exercise. The exercise, which began in May, has brought nearly 1,900 Ghanaian citizens home. The remains of two Ghanaians killed in the attacks were also repatriated, while one returnee died upon arrival, bringing the total deaths to three. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa met the evacuees and expressed appreciation to President John Dramani Mahama for his commitment to the welfare of Ghanaians abroad.
