Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has criticized the Federal Government's domestic borrowing, describing it as evidence of dangerous fiscal indiscipline. In a statement, he noted that the government borrowed N24.7 trillion between January and August 2026 despite rising crude oil prices, which he said should have reduced the need for borrowing. Atiku argued that the borrowing starves businesses of credit, kills jobs, and worsens the cost-of-living crisis.
