UK sends new commissioner to strengthen trade, investment with Africa

Alastair Long has been appointed as His Majesty's Trade Commissioner for Africa, leading the UK's trade and investment relationship with the continent. He will work with governments, investors, and businesses to deepen economic ties, expand commercial partnerships, and attract investment. Long previously served as Deputy Trade Commissioner and HM Trade Commissioner for Africa between 2019 and 2022, and most recently as Ambassador to Bahrain. He joined the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office in 2002.
